Kona Hot

Kona Hot

Well, here we are, a Hot which dates from either 1994 or 1995, I can't be entirely sure - though it's been resprayed (before I acquired it) in the 1996 Stars 'n Bars colour scheme.

This is one of the Tange Prestige Concept tubing versions, built by Tom Teesdale using Ultralight and Ultrastrong flavours of the pipes. The Ultrastrong down tube is particularly distinctive with its fluted profile.

I have to sadly confess it's not been used too much, despite having been built up in a couple of different guises. It seems happy enough as a singlespeed, though, now that I've filed a couple of flats in the rear hub axle to relieve a bit of chain tension.

Oh how I wanted one of these!

In the end I got the Explosif. Same tubeset including the downtube.

Still got it, somewhere.

Trundler, 12:52 03 Jul 2003

Blimey! It's a 20" frame with an ejector seat! (top pic)
How tall are you? !!
Nice bike all the same.

Stewart Pratt, 12:53 03 Jul 2003

6'5" :o)

Robin, 11:10 05 Aug 2004

That's nice.. Are the paint job original?

From the FAR EAST : SINGAPORE

Stewart Pratt, 14:07 05 Aug 2004

Nope, it's been resprayed.

Tom, 04:28 28 Aug 2004

I am in the process of having a Teesdale made Hot frame resprayed. Where did you get the original decals ?

Fluffbomb, 17:08 31 Aug 2004

Very nice.

Used to have the Explosif with that tube set until a crack appeared at the head/down tube weld and propogated its way 3/4 of the tube. Got a nice '96 to replace it though. Umm Columbus MAX OR tubing.

Holger, 01:09 05 Oct 2004

beautiful. i'm looking for the same bike (or just the decals)in germany since 1995.

Alfred, 07:30 29 Dec 2004

I just got my frame repainted recently and my Kona dealer was able to order maybe the last set of decals from the Kona Distributor. They may have another set.

Gabriel, 00:07 22 Jan 2005

I have a pre-1995 Norco Rampage Team Issue that is built with the same tube set (at least the down tube). It is a incredibly nice ride! Does anybody knows about this Norco frame, I am trying to get more info on it?

Yees!! Nicey!

Am s-speeding on my `98 explosif:
see it at:
http://www.blinglespeed.com/index.php?modload=bike.display&bikeid=65
(it´s waiting to go ENO!)

How much room do your tires have in the rear-stays?
I´m considering to put in a P2-fork too.
Then, some more boing-able tires would be real nice.
But the strait rear-stays are little to narrow for my Spec-Enduro´s in 2.2 let alone the FatAlbert.
So, how much squish do your conti´s provide? And how much space for mud is left ?

Did I mention how nice the Hot is?

Ride on!
